BioAnd so she smiled,
the smile which was the sole survivor
of a thousand scisms,
a thousand burdens;
like the yellow flower
I found beside the highway in November,
still blooming,
oblivious to winter's wrath.
She talked and laughed
her lips curled with wit
and danced with stories
she'd never told me before.
Something in her manner, in her voice
reminded me of home,
birch bark, snow angels, chestnut-collecting
And so I smiled.
